From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 17): Army in N. Mindanao distributes Php 1-M I.T. equipment to field units

The Philippine Army here would distribute Information Technology (IT) equipment to the military’s various line offices in Northern Mindanao, an officer said Thursday.

Capt. Patrick Martinez, Army’s 4th Infantry Division (ID) spokesman, said that the IT equipment consisting of nine laptops and 31 desktop computer sets was worth Php 1,138,418.32 million.

He said that the equipment would be distributed to the 4ID’s two subordinate units in North and Northeastern Mindanao Regions.

Martinez said that the equipment forms part was part of the government’s “Medium-Term Information and Communications Technology Harmonization Initiative Program (MITHI)."

He said that the MITHI program is an e-government and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) support initiative that aims to harmonize ICT-related resources, programs and projects in all agencies and on all levels of the bureaucracy.

Maj. Gen. Benjamin R Madrigal Jr., 4ID commander, said that the new IT equipment would encourage the men in the army brigade and battalions to work more efficiently and effectively.

Madrigal, however, cautioned the men in uniform by saying that “no machine can do the work of one extraordinary man.”

Madrigal cited the former U.S. President John F Kennedy who said that “man is still the most extraordinary computer of all.”
