The country's two FA-50PH "Fighting Eagle"
lift-interim fighter jet aircraft will be conducting a high-speed opener pass
during the Philippine Air Force (PAF)'s 69th anniversary rites over the
airspace of Clark Air Base, Angeles
City , Pampanga on July 5.
This was confirmed by PAF spokesperson Col. Robert Araus
Musico in an interview Tuesday.
The first two South Korean-made FA-50PHs, out of 12-plane
order from Korea Aerospace Industries, arrived in the Philippines
last Nov. 28.
Aside from the high-speed flybys by the Mach 1.5 capable
FA-50PHs, 22 assorted aircraft will be also flying in formation in the shape of
a giant "69".
Musico said President-elect Rodrigo Duterte is expected to
attend the event which will highlight the capabilities of the PAF's newly-acquired
air assets.
The PAF is Southeast Asia 's
first truly modern air force having being established in 1936 as Philippine
Army Air Corps (PACC).
The PACC, despite its inferior flying machines, valiantly
resisted the Japanese air attacks with pilots like Capt. Jesus Villamor and Lt.
Cesar Basa during the early part of World War II in the Pacific, before being
overwhelmed by the superior numbers of the enemy.
