The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday confirmed
that a decapitated head of a Caucasian-looking person found beside the Mt.
Carmel Cathedral along Sanchez
Street in Bgy. Walled City, Jolo belongs to
Canadian national Robert Hall.
During a news briefing in Camp Crame, Chief Superintendent
Emmanuel Aranas, PNP Crime Laboratory Director, confirmed that Hall's DNA
profile given by the Canadian embassy and the DNA from the specimen which was
took from the severed head have matched.
”I would like to inform the public that finally we have
confirmed the identification of the decapitated head. ito yung kidnap victim na
ang pangalan ay Robert Hall now we were able to identify the said victim
through DNA and luckilly we were given of the DNA profile of Mr. Robert Hall,
it was generated by the national forensic laboratory services from Ottawa
Canada. So ibig sabihin the head that was recovered from sulu is indeed that of
mr robert hall,” Aranas told reporters.
”All kinds of tissues na pwedeng magamit. We took buccle
swabs, ito yung nanggaling sa loob ng oral cavity, Neck muscle kumuha rin mga
examiners as well yung left earlobe yun kasi yung mga usual na kinukuhan
samples (and) all of them showed DNA profile we successfully obtained DNA
profiles from these three samples,” he explained.
Meanwhile, he noted that they are still waiting for the
missing body of the victim, adding that the PNP Crime Lab will use the same
method in comparing the DNA from the recovered body and the one provided by the
Canadian Embassy.
Last June 13, the head placed inside a plastic bag was found
by the police following an information from a concerned citizen and the
decapitated head was turned over to the Trauma Station Hospital of the Kampo
Heneral Teodolo Bautista for proper disposition.
Hall was taken captive with three other people by Abu Sayyaf
militants in September 2015 from an upscale resort in Samal Island .
He was the second Canadian national to be beheaded by the
bandits, following the beheading of another Canadian captive John Ridsdel last
April 25.
