Armed skirmishes between troops, NPAs continue in Misamis Oriental

From the Philippine News Agency (Jun 1): Armed skirmishes between troops, NPAs continue in Misamis Oriental

The military on Wednesday admitted that it is using cannons to bombard the suspected rebel lair in Misamis Oriental.

Capt. Nestor Endozo, the spokesperson of the Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion, said that the military has pinpointed the exact position of the camp of the New People’s Army rebels in the village of Bunal, in Salay, Misamis Oriental.

Endozo also confirmed the death of two NPA rebels who were killed during the military offensive Friday afternoon last week, three days after the armed encounter took place.

“As of Wednesday, the military’s combat operations have continued as the government troopers started clearing the area to protect the civilians in the hinterland village,” he said.

He also explained that the military operation was in reaction of the reports that the rebels are adding up camps in the area.

About 160 families evacuated to the municipal covered court due to the ongoing armed clashes by the government troopers and NPA rebels that started Wednesday last week.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office has extended free medical services and distributed relief goods to the evacuees.
