The Philippine Air Force (PAF) is allocating PHP1.3 million
for the acquisition of spare parts needed for the maintenance of its sole
Cessna LC-210 weather aircraft.
Bid opening is scheduled for March 9, 9 a.m. at the PAF
Procurement Center Conference Room, Villamor Air Base, Pasay City .
Prospective bidders should have an experience in a similar
project within the last five years.
The LC-210 is operated and maintained by the 900th Air Force
Weather Group based in Villamor Air Base, Pasay City .
The LC-210 can only be flown by a single pilot but can carry
five passengers while reaching a maximum speed of 204 knots (235 mph or 378
km/h) at a height of 17,000 ft (5,200 m).
The LC-210 is primarily used for cloud-seeding operations, a
form of weather modification, done by dispersing substances into the air that
serve as cloud condensation or ice nuclei, which alter the microphysical
processes within the cloud.
The usual intent is to increase precipitation. The most
common chemicals used for cloud seeding include silver iodide, potassium iodide
and dry ice (solid carbon dioxide). Liquid propane, which expands into a gas,
has also been used.
