From ABS-CBN (Mar 5): 2 cops hurt in Maguindanao ambush
MAGUINDANAO - Two policemen were wounded Friday when their vehicle was ambushed by unidentified armed men in Barangay Bagan, Guindulungan town in this province.
The Guindulungan police were patrolling the area at around 9 p.m. when a homemade bomb exploded just 10 meters away from a road they passed.
Police had just alighted from their patrol jeep when the suspects opened fire on them.
Another improvised explosion device, located 25 meters away from the first bomb, also went off within a few minutes.
The firefight between the police and suspects lasted for about 40 minutes.
Major General Edmundo Pangilinan of the 6th Infantry Division is convinced that the attack was part of the diversionary tactics of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) amid ongoing clearing operations in the neighboring Datu Salibo town.
Police continue investigating the incident.
