Government troopers under 401st Brigade, Philippine Army,
4th Infantry Division on combat patrol operations, has located a hastily
abandoned major rebel camp along the border of Jabonga and Santiago municipalities of the said province
on Wednesday morning.
Army reports said that while the government troopers were
moving towards its axis of advance of the aforementioned place, they located
the hastily abandoned camp which was believed to be the regional headquarters
of the Northeastern Mindanao Revolutionary Committee (NEMRC).
The camp located at a thickly forested area, more or less
40-45 kilometers from Jabonga town proper, can accommodate more or less 400
persons. It has a training and a formation area, 50 outposts, two hundred
bunkers, a function hall, 20 kitchens and twenty comfort rooms.
The occupants in their haste left behind a generator, a
handheld radio “YAESO” model, 90 rounds of ammunition for AK 47, ten blasting
caps, a backpack, two thousand meters long wire, 150 pieces commercial plugs,
500 meters laminated sacks, 50 containers with gasoline, kerosene, assorted
condiment, eight containers engine oil, a magazine for AK47, manual for making
an of an improvised explosive device (IED), and communist-national democratic
front-new people’s army documents.
The location has signal access for mobile phones.
Minor skirmishes of the splinter groups and some snipers are
still observable as the government troopers are still scouring and doing hot
pursuit operations against the fleeing rebels.
