He was arrested by virtue of the warrant of arrest for violation of Sec. 3 of PD 1866 as amended by Sec. 1 of Republic Act 9516, issued by Hon Judge Virginia Tejano Ang, acting presiding judge of RTC Branch 3.

In his statement, Col. Macairog Alberto, the commander of 1001st Brigade, said the residents in far-flung barangays have started to provide them information on the presence of the NPA.

“They have been very cooperative in providing us necessary information to locate the armed group,” Alberto said.

With the earlier arrest of alias Marlon, Guerilla Front 2 secretary and this successful arrest of Montecalvo we are thankful to the  people for their willingness and initiative to end the armed struggle and finally allow peace to reign in the region,”he added.

The suspect is now under the custody in Lupon Municipal Police station.

Last week, an  alleged NPA member is facing a charge before the City Prosecution Office after he was arrested at Purok 21, Sitio Highland, Barangay Upper Sirib, Calinan District .

Ruditha Rosete Gaylawan was sued for violation of Omnibus Election Code, Republic Act 10591 or “Illegal Possession of Firearms,” and Republic Act 9561 or “Illegal Possession of Explosives.”

Reportedly, she was the secretary of Front 54 of the NPA operating in the third district of Davao city.

Gaylawan was arrested through the arrest warrant for murder issued by Judge Virginia Tejano Ang of Regional Trial Court Branch 1, Tagum City in Davao Del Norte.

Recovered from Gaylawan was the .45 caliber pistol along with a magazine loaded with six bullets, two pieces of grenade, assorted medicines, two improvised bombs and reportedly subversive documents.

She was arrested through a joint operation conducted by the Calinan Police Precinct, 84th Infantry Battalion and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

According to Lt. Col. Louie Villanueva, commander of 84IB, the suspect was arrested on the tip given to them by the residents in the area.

“It only shows that they are already tired of manipulation and exploitation being made by this group,” he said. “People are craving for development but these lawless elements are preventing it so that they can recruit people by advertising the governments fault.”
