From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 26): Army lieutenant killed in Occidental Mindoro clash

An Army lieutenant was killed during an encounter with 10 New People's Army (NPA) rebels in Barangay Batasan, San Jose town, Occidental Mindoro on Sunday morning.

Southern Luzon Command spokesperson Major Angelo Guzman identified the slain officer as 1st Lt. Mike G. Nollora, commander of Bravo Company of the 4th Infantry Battalion.

The clash took place 9:30 a.m. Nollora was wounded in the left thigh during the 10-minute encounter.

The victim and his men were conducting a security patrol when the encounter took place.

Guzman said first aid was given to Nollora prior his transport to casualty collection point.

However, the victim expired of his wounds at 11 a.m.

203rd Infantry Battalion commander Col. Gevin Edjawan directed pursuit operations.

"It is saddening that we lost a young commander and a good officer while serving and protecting the people of Occidental Mindoro," Southern Luzon Command head Lt. Gen. Ricardo R. Visaya said.

He added that they will continue its focused military operations in Occidental Mindoro to win the peace in the island.
