CAMP GEN MATEO CAPINPIN, Tanay -- The 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) announced today the death of a soldier in an encounter with Communist terrorists while on security patrol in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro on Sunday.

According to official statement of the 2nd Infantry Division the victim was 1st Lt. Mike Nollora of the 4th Infantry Battalion, 2ID.

It said the platoon led by the victim was conducting security patrol in at Dayaga Area, Batasan Village, San Jose when fired upon by more or less 10 Communist terrorists and a firefight ensued for some 10 minutes before the rebels escaped.

The remains of Nollora was already transported to the mortuary of the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Fort Andres Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Major General Romeo Gan, commander of the 2ID, extended his deepest sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family and assured that all benefits will be accorded to the dependents the soonest possible time.

Gan also condemned the act of terrorism as he ordered to conduct massive operation to get the perpetrators.
