The Philippine Army (PA) on Monday announced that it will
provide special financial assistance to the family of the first lieutenant
killed during an encounter with New People's Army (NPA) rebels in San Jose town, Occidental
Mindoro Sunday.
This was stressed by PA spokesperson Col. Benjamin Hao
Monday.
"The PA will provide special financial assistance,
burial assistance, and other benefits to the family of the deceased," he
added.
Killed in the 9:30 a.m. encounter in Sitio Dayaga, Barangay
Batasan, San Jose
town, Occidental Mindoro was 1st Lt. Mike G. Nollora, Charlie Company
commander, a field unit of the 4th Infantry Battalion.
He sustained a gunshot wound on his left thigh which later
on caused his death.
Nollora and his men were on their way to conduct a film
showing activity for the Mangyans in the Sitio when they were encountered by
some 10 NPA rebels.
Firefight lasted for about five minutes. Nollora was
airlifted to the Headquarters of the 203rd Brigade in Barangay Pag-asa, Bansud,
Oriental Mindoro.
Troops from the 21st and 22nd Division Reconnaissance
Company and Alpha Company of the 4th Infantry Battalion were immediately
mobilized to conduct pursuit operations.
Early this Monday, Nollora's remain was brought to the
Libingan ng mga Bayani Mortuary in Fort
Bonifacio , Taguig City .
Military honors were accorded upon his arrival.
The former is member of the the Philippine Military Academy
Class of 2009. He is survived by his wife and two children. Nollora was only 31
at the time of his death.
