As the Philippine Army celebrates its 118th founding
anniversary Monday, PA commander Lt. Gen. Hernando DCA Iriberri took time to
honor the troopers killed and wounded in action while doing their mandate.
"We take this occasion to salute our brother-soldiers
who died in the name of duty, those braved gunfire and life-threatening
conditions to do their jobs. We salute the 123 who were killed and the 476
wounded in action in 2014," he added.
"We also salute the five officers, 39 enlisted
personnel, and five CAFGU active auxiliaries who made the ultimate sacrifice
and 189 wounded in line of duty for the two months and 22 days that have passed
in 2015," Iriberri stressed.
The PA chief also lauded these fallen troopers for remaining
true to their pledge and lived by the Army's core values of honor, patriotism,
duty.
"We honor them not only by acknowledging their
sacrifice with the deepest gratitude but by living up to the standards of
service that they have set as well," Iriberri disclosed.
The PA commander added that the Army has made major strides
in key areas in the Army Transportation Roadmap and Internal Peace and Security
Plan "Bayanihan".
"From raising our units' readiness, acquiring mission
essential equipment, sustaining operational tempo, achieving institutionalized
status and being awarded the gold trail-blazer seal in the Performance
Governance System to the arrest of NPA's lead couple, Benito and Wilma Tiamzon
and other threat group leaders such as Kahir Mundos, Mohammad Ali Tambako, the
Army's team efforts in 2014 and 2015 truly contributes to the attainment of our
organizational excellence and operational targets," Iriberri concluded.
