Some three Cotabato residents were injured and 123 families evacuated their homes last Friday due to fighting between a barangay peacekeeping force and Moro Islamic Liberation Front fighters, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported.

According to the NDRRMC, farmers had summoned the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) of Barangay Estaddo in Matalam when they saw the MILF fighters at their farm site.

The BPAT then engaged the MILF fighters who were from the 5th Brigade, 108th Base Command and were led by deputy brigade commander Kagui Mansor Imbong.

Some two MILF fighters were also injured in the fighting.

The 123 families that fled the fighting were from the five puroks of Barangay Estado and one purok of Barangay Kibudok.

The evacuees were housed in barangay halls, schools, and were provided food packs.
