A barangay tanod (village volunteer security man and law
enforcer) was executed by New People's Army (NPA) rebels, who had suspected him
of being a military informer, in front of his family inside his residence at
Barangay Jangad, Balud, Masbate , on Sunday
afternoon.
A police report reaching Chief Supt. Victor P. Deona, Bicol
regional police director, identified the victim as Nelson Alegre, 45, who was
resting at about 1 p.m. with his family when young-looking men armed with
.45-caliber pistol barged in and shot him at the full view of his family.
The suspects then casually walked away.
The report said the NPA had long suspected Alegre of being a
military and police informer in their area, which the victim's relatives
vehemently denied, saying he was just a simple farmer and village law enforcer.
