No. 2 NPA leader in Bicol region bagged

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 28): No. 2 NPA leader in Bicol region bagged

Military and police operatives arrested the New People's Army's No. 2 leader in the Bicol region during operations in Cabuyao City, Laguna Tuesday night.

Southern Luzon Command spokesperson Major Angelo Guzman identified the arrested rebel as Reynaldo Hugo.

He was bagged by security forces at 10:14 p.m. Tuesday by virtue of Arrest Warrants CC# 2367 (multiple murder) and 2368 (multiple frustrated murder) issued by Branch 50, 5th Judicial Region in San Jose, Camarines Sur.

A member of the Executive Committee and Operations Officer in Bicol region, Hugo used to dictate the operational tempo of the NPA in the area.

Guzman said internal disputes on the whereabouts of extortion money led for some NPA members to pinpoint Hugo to the authorities.

"Now that they are disarrayed with the arrest of Reynaldo Hugo, this is a good opportunity for us to further push our focused military operations there," Southern Luzon Command head Major Gen. Ricardo R. Visaya said.

Last year, three ranking NPA leaders in Bicol were arrested, namely: Regional Secretary Mario Dela Cruz, Executive Committee member Sylvestre Layones and Sorsogon Secretary Elias Florentino Pura.
