From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 28): Former rebels in Negros Occidental get Php225,000 in cash aid from OPAPP, DILG

Fifteen former rebels (FRs) in Negros Occidental received a total of Php225,000 in financial assistance from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Each beneficiary received Php15,000 each in Tuesday’s culmination of the Project Development Seminar for former rebels (FRs) held at the Technology and Livelihood Development Center here.

The assistance was granted by the OPAPP and the DILG through the Comprehensive Local Integration Program for FRs, a complementary program of the national government to the local government unit’s peace-building efforts.

Some of the rebel returnees have previously received financial assistance worth Php5,000 each and livelihood programs from Negros Occidental.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the assistance given to them, and they were encouraged to participate in the programs of the government.

Officials present were Second District Board Member Salvador Escalante who represented Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr., DILG Negros Occidental Provincial Director Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander Col. Jon Aying, and Provincial Peace Integration and Development Unit Action Officer Ma. Lina Sanogal.
