Top military and police officials in Caraga region said they
are in full alert after the bloody incident on Sunday, where more than 40
members of the elite Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police
were killed in a firefight between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and
the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).
This was announced during Tuesday's press forum both by the
4th Infantry Division Commanding General Maj. Gen. Oscar T. Lactao and Police
Regional Office 13 Director David Y. Ombao, after the joint special meeting of
the Regional Peace and Security Coordinating Council (RPSCC) and the Agusan del
Norte Peace and Order Council (PPOC) held at the Provincial Capitol Training
Center, Capitol Compound, this city chaired by Agusan del Norte Governor Maria
Angelica Rosedell Amante-Matba.
Top officials of the military and police, their regional
officials and the other members of both councils attended the meeting.
Ombao said the alert orders came from their headquarters at Camp Crame .
Maj. Gen. Lactao, for his part, said that since the area
where the incident happened is just a neighboring region, the implementation of
an alert order for the military is necessary.
Police headquarters and stations here flies their flags at
half mast in honor of the fallen SAF members at Mamasapano, Lanao.
