Former Moro Islamic Liberation Front spokesman Eid Kabalu claimed that members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, the Moro National Liberation Front and some disgruntled MILF elements have joined forces because of their shared rejection of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law.
Though they espouse different strategies leading to secession, they are united in opposition to the slow pace of discussions on the Bangsamoro Basic Law and the way it is turning out, Kabalu said.
He said most of the members of this grouping are related by blood -- cousins or siblings -- and unite whenever they encounter problems in the areas they control.
According to MNLF commander Abduljabar Jalil, an official close to MNLF founding chairman Nur Misuari, confirmed Kabalu’s disclosure and said those who form the group have rejected the process of the negotiations.
The MILF was formed in 1977 under the leadership of Hashim Salamat after the MNLF forged an agreement with the government.
The BIFF, led by Ameril Umbra Kato, broke away from the MILF in 2008 after the latter signed the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain, a preliminary peace agreement with the government that the Supreme Court later nullified.
