8th Infantry Division hosts clergy in goodwill games

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 28): 8th Infantry Division hosts clergy in goodwill games

In line with its efforts to get closer with the community, the 8th Infantry Division hosted members of the Diocese of Calbayog in Samar in a fellowship game held on Jan. 26-27.

In a statement Wednesday, Major Amado C. Gutierrez, 8th Infantry Division spokesperson, said the event was held at their headquarters at Calbayog City.

Due to inclement weather, only basketball and table tennis games were played during the fellowship.

The officers and men of the 8th Infantry Division were led by Major Gen. Jet Velarmino while Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Figueroa, parish priest of St. Bartholomew Apostle Parish of Catbalogan City, headed the 15 members of the clergy of Diocese of Calbayog.

After the games, Father Figueroa hosted a dinner at his official home which was attended by officers of the 8th Infantry Division led by Capt. Rey G. Loyola, the unit's chaplain.

“I hope that the activity will strengthen the more our fraternal ties with the clergy of the Calbayog Diocese, and the 8th Infantry Division under my command is more than willing to continue hosting the same event on a regular basis,” Velarmino said.

“The 8th Infantry Division leadership is also looking forward to work deeper with the clergy, not only in having fellowship games, but also in activities that would benefit the people that the military and the clergy are both serving," he added.
