The provincial government of South Cotabato is working for the inclusion of 44 former New People’s Army (NPA) rebels and underground mass organizers from Lake Sebu town into the government’s Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP). Nelida Pereira, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) chief, said they are currently conducting a profiling of 11 NPA rebel returnees and 33 members of underground mass organizations supported by the rebel group as part of the implementation of the integration program in the area. She said the 11 former NPA guerrillas separately surrendered recently to officials of the Army’s 27th Infantry Battalion (IB). The 33 other civilian organizers voluntarily gave up to local authorities and the 27th IB following a series of negotiations, Pereira said. “Their enlistment into the CLIP in ongoing and we’re hoping to complete the process soon so they could avail of its benefits,” she said. 1Lt.
