the Philippine Marine Corps conducted a two-month sports competitions dubbed as
“Football for Peace”. About 500 Muslim and Christian children from the provinces of Sultan Kudarat
and Cotabato City participated in the competition that taught them how to
cooperate as a team, complement each other’s weaknesses and appreciate the value
of sportsmanship, according to Brig. Gen. Alex Balutan, commanding officer of
the 2nd Marine Brigade.
Balutan said the "Football for Peace" was a joint project of the Marine
Battalion Landing Team 1 and the 2nd Marine Brigade.
Primarily, the activity which culminated over the weekend, was meant to
develop religious and cultural solidarity among Muslims and Christians in areas
where the Philippine Marines operate....
The football for peace was in support of the country’s observance of peace
month spearheaded by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace
