The military on Monday denied that it is behind moves to disqualify progressive groups from the party-list race. Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesman Col. Arnulfo Burgos Jr. said the military is not allowed to meddle with politics. “We are not involved in efforts to disqualify these groups. We cannot engage in partisan politics,” Burgos said in an interview. Burgos also claimed that the AFP is not backing organizations seeking the disqualification of party-list groups accused of supporting communist rebels. He said the military is not taking sides with regard to the tussle between Anakbayan and Akbayan, the party-list group accused of being a lapdog of the Aquino administration. “We do not endorse or campaign against any candidate or group,” the AFP spokesman said....
