TWO New People's Army (NPA) rebels have surrendered to military authorities in Barangay Poblacion, Manticao in Misamis Oriental.

On June 8, 2023, a ceremonial peaceful surrender was conducted by the local government unit of Manticao in partnership with the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade and 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion.

The two NPA rebels surrendered their two M16 rifles, six short magazine steel, 67 live rounds of ammo, and two bandoleers.

According to the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion, they have started preparing documentation and an initial interview for the two rebels' inclusion in the government's Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-Clip).

Through the E-Clip, they will receive a financial package covering their immediate needs, a provision for reintegration processes, starting capital for livelihood, and remuneration for their surrendered firearms.

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Manticao Municipal Local Government Operations Officer Elizabeth Buna, during June 8's activity, assured the two now former rebels that their office will assist in their reintegration.

"Sa ilang bugos na kabubut-on nga tungod sa ilang pagsalig sa kanindot sa pagdala sa Manticao, through our Philippine Army, naka decision sila nga mo ni-surrender. The office of the MLGU is very much willing, at your service, para sa bayan," Buna said.

Manticao Mayor Stephen Tan, on the otherhand, gave out cash assistance, two sacks of rice, and grocery items to the rebels.

"Ato gi-awhag pud ang uban nilang kauban nga mu-surrender para matagaan sila og tabang, ug musalig sila sa gobyerno kay andam kita magpaluyo sa ila kung unsa'y ila kinahanglan, kay dili gyud sila biyaan sa gobyerno," Tan said.

2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade Commander Anthon Abrina, for his part, urged the other communist rebels to surrender, saying that the government is ready to help them turn over a new leaf.

"Ayaw namin na makabaril ng kapwa Pilipino, nandito ang gobyerno upang tulungan kayo na magbagong buhay, hindi pa huli ang lahat upang magkaroon ng matuwid at masaganang buhay," Abrina said.
