CPP-NPA Terrorist Dead, high-powered Firearm seized in Army-NPA clash

MALITBOG, Bukidnon – A CPP-NPA terrorist was killed, and one (1) high-powered firearm was captured during an armed encounter between the troops of the 16th Infantry (Maglilingkod) Battalion under the 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade against more or less 15 NPA members at Brgy Santiago, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon this morning, June 14.

The 20-minute firefight resulted in the unfortunate demise of an NPA member identified by former rebel 𝑎𝑘𝑎 𝑀𝑖𝑟𝑎𝑦, as Steven Dagonio 𝑎𝑘𝑎 𝐽𝑎𝑛𝑔, 26 years old from Sitio Aligodon, Brgy Mat-i, Misamis Oriental and a Squad Leader of the NPA guerilla unit – SRSDG EAGLES, SRC 1, NCMRC. The government troops also captured one (1) M16 rifle, bandolier with one (1) magazine, various medical supplies and personal belongings.

The armed engagement was a result of information dutifully provided by concerned citizens in the area who have grown tired and weary of the continuous presence of the NPA group which was actively attempting to recover purported lost mass bases through recruitment and extortion.

Further, the members of SRC1, NCMRC have been severely depleted already as a result of their successive debacles in the hands of 402Bde units these past few months. Effectively institutionalizing a whole-of-nation approach in addressing the insurgency in the area of responsibility, the Stingers Brigade continues to protect the people of Northern Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental from the threat of the CPP-NPA-NDF.

16IB reiterates its call on the few remaining communist-terrorist group members that have been deceived by the false propaganda of the CPP to surrender and have a chance of living peaceful and productive lives and take advantage of the government programs for rebel returnees.
