Police Capt. Arturo Margallo, deputy chief for administration of the Himamaylan City Police Station, said that one of the six unidentified persons introduced themselves as NPA rebels to a watchman.

The perpetrators allegedly told the watchman that the construction firm was not paying revolutionary taxes.

They then took two gallons of gasoline, poured it on the heavy equipment, and set it on fire, according to Margallo. The two backhoes were valued at P7.5 million.

Margallo said the perpetrators then fled, leaving the watchman unharmed.

He said the firm has not had any threat from the rebels.

Margallo said the firm is currently working on a P100-million road project dubbed Himamaylan-Tayasan Road in the area.

Despite initially looking at the incident as insurgency-related, Margallo said they will have to verify it also with the Philippine Army.
