WESTMINCOM: MNLF Community, PNP and LGU signs Joint Peace Covenant ‘’ Persona Non-Grata’’ against ASG and Hand-over Loose Firearms to MBLT-7

HMBLT7, Brgy Karungdong, Kalingalan Caluang, Sulu- 19 January 2021

The base commanders of the MNLF under Commander Ali Julkipli of Kalingalan Caluang, Sulu together with Marine Battalion Landing Team-7 have signed the Peace Covenant declaring ASG as “Persona Non-Grata” in all MNLF camps and communities in the municipality of Kalingalan Caluang in a ceremony presided by COL HERNANIE S SONGANO PN(M)(GSC), the Commander, 4th Marine Brigade held at Headquarters Marine Battalion Landing Team-7, Brgy Karungdong, Kalingalang Caluang. The activity was witnessed by the Local Government Unit and elements of the Local Philippine National Police of the said municipality on Tuesday, 19 January 2021.

According to LTCOL EDUARD C OLASO PN(M), Commanding Officer of MBLT7, the denouncement of MNLF against the presence of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in their respective camps and communities is a clear manifestation that MNLF as Peace Inclined Armed Groups (PIAG) is one with the AFP in establishing and maintaining peace and order in the municipality of Kalingalan Caluang. 

Hon Nurshamier A Halun, Municipal Mayor of Kalingalan Caluang has also lauded the coordination and cooperation between the MNLF and Marines in his municipality. Meanwhile, to further support the campaign for peace and order in his municipality, Mayor Halun has also facilitated the voluntary turn-over of the loose/unlicensed firearms to this unit.

The Barangay Local Government Unit of Kalingalan Caluang Municipality with Hon Abdulla Suwaib T Caluang, and Hon Sasad Madjuri, Barangay Chairmen of Brgy Karungdong and Kambing respectively has voluntarily turned-over the loose /unlicensed firearms namely; one (1) M1 Garand Caliber 30 Rifle with Serial number 2151493, one (1) home-made 12 Gauge shotgun, and one (1) home- made GL40MM M79 to this unit.

These firearms were subsequently placed under the custody of MBLT-7 for disposition and safekeeping. “’The voluntary turn-over of loose firearms to the Marines has signified our outmost cooperation to the objective of the security forces in my municipality’, said Mayor Halun.

COL HERNANIE S SONGANO PN(M)(GSC), Commander, 4th Marine Brigade praised the troops of Marine Battalion Landing Team-7 for the remarkable and significant accomplishment in its Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) Efforts in the 2nd District of Sulu.

“Likewise, the 4th Marine Brigade under Joint Task Force Sulu as a whole will continue to conduct intensified key leaders and stakeholders engagement in order to sustain the peace and development efforts in the area of operations”, COL SONGANO PN(M)(GSC) added.
