From the Philippine Information Agency (Jan 19, 2021): Peace programs key to ending communist insurgency in Leyte, Southern Leyte (By Marcelo M. Pedalino)
MAASIN CITY, Jan. 19 (PIA) -- Programs that promote peace and advocated, especially, by groups of young people can be offered as a way out to end problems brought about by communist terrorist organizations. This was the solid view posited by Joy Fin Gesulga, president of the Youth for Peace PH – Southern Leyte, and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) president of Barangay Hilaan, Bontoc town.
“Through peace, we can have a great nation,” Gesulga declared at the Laging Handa Network Briefing program Thursday, January 14, where she was one of the guests, with PCOO Sec. Martin Andanar anchoring the talk show.
Gesulga said the youth group, where she belonged as leader, this year will be focused on putting an end to the CPP-NPA-NDF in the provinces of Leyte and Southern Leyte.
Peace programs dedicated on ending the problems brought about by these communist terrorist groups will be undertaken, Gesulga also said.
“In Southern Leyte, we have conducted two peace camps and we will still have 16 more municipalities where we will conduct these,” she added.
Meanwhile, when sought for comment on the upcoming Covid-19 vaccination program, Gesulga said people in her own barangay are in favor of getting vaccinated.
The vaccination issue was not discussed in depth at the municipal level, and for the whole province, she said there were some misgivings on having oneself vaccinated. (ldl/mmp/PIA8-Southern Leyte)
