JTF Bicolandia expects more returning CTG members in the future

From the Philippine Information Agency (Jan 19, 2021): JTF Bicolandia expects more returning CTG members in the future (By Ana-Liza S. Macatangay)

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, PILI, Camarines Sur, Jan. 19 (PIA) –9th Infantry Division Commander and Joint Task Force Bicolandia (JTFB) Chairman MGEN Herny A. Robinson Jr., PA believes that the government’s sincerity to bring Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) members to their “true home” is slowly but finally bearing fruit.

This after (11) CTG members in Castilla, Sorsogon including Danilo Guray, the second in rank of Platoon 1, Larangan 2, Komiteng Probinsya 3 of BRPC surrendered
to the government bringing with them 11 High Powered Firearms (M16 rifles).

Another nine (9) Sentro De Grabidad (SDG) members from Bulan town, also in Sorsogon also put down their arms,
expressed their willingness to accept the government’s program and start anew. They also handed over 9 High Powered Firearms (M16 rifles) on Saturday, Jan. 16.

MGEN Robinson said that this “snowball” of surrenderees will eventually weaken and disintegrate the CTG as more and more are expressing their desire to return to the folds of law and abandon the decade-long fight in the mountain.

It will be recalled that last year, the Philippine Army also reported that CTG members also surrendered to the authorities in the provinces of Masbate, Camarines Sur, Albay and Sorsogon.

Division Public Affairs Office (DPAO) Spokesperson CPT John Paul Belleza, in a press statement said that those who surrendered could have realized that the “dream” of a “humane world” doesn’t actually exist in the organization that they thought will bring them the much-needed change they are dreaming of.

“Seeing how filthy, inhumane and ruthless their leaders in the movement are, these former rebels (FRs) decided to abandon the armed struggle and live a more meaningful and peaceful life with their families,” Belleza said.

MGEN Robinson also condemned the killing of innocent soldiers who were deployed in the mountains to ensure the safety of civilians and as partners of the government in manning areas to avoid the COVID-19 virus from spreading.

“These developments continue to cripple the CTG thus, the Bicol Regional Party Committee (BRPC) is now desperately using their assassins to murder defenseless soldiers who are on the community development mission.”

“To recuperate from the heavy losses due to the series of successful engagements and continuous snowballing of surrenderer from its members to the government, the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) treacherously attacked four members of the Philippine Army around 8:25 in the morning at Barangay Banquerohan, Legazpi City, Albay, Sunday, January 17,” Robinson added.

The said ambush resulted to the death of 3 military personnel who died on the spot while one was wounded. They are all members of the 31st Infantry Battalion (31IB).

“They are actually on their way, aboard their motorcycles to proceed to a coordination meeting with the LGU when they were treacherously ambushed by at least 10 communist NPA terrorists (CNTs). They are supposed to attend a meeting concerning the security aspects of the upcoming mobilization of equipment and construction of Villahermosa-Bariis road,” Belleza narrated.

The Joint Task Force Bicolandia (JTFB) under MGEN Robinson condemned the terror act hurled yet again by the CTG. He also expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.

"This is an act of evil and a clear proof that CTG is anti-people and anti-development; harming our troops who are trying to secure another significant project for the residents of Albay. This is also the very reason why we should all be united in condemning this terroristic act,” the commander said.

“We might be mourning right now but we will make sure that our soldiers who were treacherously killed will not be put in vain. We will crush these inhumane terrorists. So, to the remaining members of the CTG, before it happens, surrender to the government and withdraw your membership and support to this hopeless terrorist movement," MGen. Robinson said in closing.
