As part of the program, the Higaonon tribal leaders performed a traditional ritual to welcome and accept the Former Rebels despite the offenses and atrocities they made when they were still with the NPA. According to the tribal chieftains, the said ritual is conducted is to remove the hatred and anger between the former rebels and the members of the tribe.

The ceremony was attended by Major General Andres C Centino, Commander of 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division, Brigadier General Maurito L Licudine, 402nd Infantry Brigade Commander, Honorable Meraluna S Abrogar, Municipal Mayor of Claveria, and the Indigenous People Mandatory Representative (IPMR) of Las Nieves, Agusan Del Norte, Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental, and Balingasag, Misamis Oriental.

During the activity, the FRs especially the recent surrenderees emotionally expressed their gratitude to the government for letting them experience the feeling of belongingness. Also, after many years, they were able to see their families whom they abandoned in exchange of the wasted life they spent with the NPAs.

Lucio Lindaan alias Dino, former Platoon Leader of Platoon Ryan, Sub-Regional Command (SRC1), NCMRC said, “Usa ka kahupayan alang kanamo nga gidawat kami sa among tribo bisan pa sa mga kalapasan nga among nahimo kanila. Kauban ang mga rebeldeng niadto, malipayon kami karon nga makabalik sa panggamhanan nga walay pagdumot sa atong mga kadingkasing.”

(It is a relief for us to be accepted by our tribe despite all the offenses we committed against them. Together with my companions, we are now happy to return to the mainstream society with no hatred in our hearts.)

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Ricky L Canatoy, Commanding Officer of 58th Infantry “Dimalulupig” Battalion said, “To the victims of the communist terrorist groups, it’s now the right time for you to lay down your arms and return to the folds of the law. Christmas is fast approaching, and your families and your fellow tribe members are waiting for you to return home. Rest assured that the Army will secure you and your family as you spend this Christmas.”
