CAMP SANG-AN, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur – Communist NPA Terrorist Logistics/Finance officer of Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee and one of his comrade, surrendered and conceded defeat to Army in Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay province Saturday, September 26, 2020.

“Their surrender came after four of their members including one of the Front Committee Secretary yielded last Thursday to our unit and their Main Regional Guerilla Unit including thier armory surrendered to 97IB”, said Lt. Col. Don Templonuevo, 44 Infantry Battalion Commander.

The NPA officer and his comrade were identified as Antonio Roda y Dialagdon, known as alias Dondon/Cindoy and Ronel Racho y Camporedondo or known as alias Bobby.

Dialagdon spent 32 years in the terrorist organization while Camporedondo struggled for 8 years.

According to Lt. Col. Templonuevo, during the initial debriefing, Dialagdon admitted that they were losing their grounds and the continuous surrender of their commanders and members made their organization in Western Mindanao in close to defeat.

Local’s support, more government projects in hinterlands, visibility of troops, relentless military operation and the pandemic were also the factors of their dwindling.

Brig. Gen. Leonel Nicolas, 102nd Infantry Brigade Commander who has operational jurisdiction of Zamboanga Sibugay, attributes the continuous surrender of NPAs to the stakeholders, local communities, local government units and local chief executives who supported the EO 70 signed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

“Convergence played a great role on our quest for peace and development in our area of responsibility”, said Brig. Gen. Nicolas.

Maj. Gen. Gene Ponio, the 1st Infantry Division commander, stressed to remain relentless despite the NPA’s revelation.

“There are still remnants of their guerilla fronts and other threats groups in our area of operation that needed to be addressed. Rest assured that we will neutralize and defeat them in due time”, said Maj. Gen. Ponio.

“Peace and progress is now felt by the constituents of Western Mindanao and this is because of our cooperation and collaboration that we need to sustain”, said Maj. Gen. Ponio.
