Makilala, Cotabato – Seven (7) Communist Terrorist Cadres surrendered to the 39th Infantry Battalion last September 3, 2020. Through Focused Security Operations and Community Support Programs backed by accurate Intelligence Operations have forced them to abandon their hideouts and grab the opportunity to surrender. They were informed that many of their former comrades who surrendered earlier to the 39th Infantry Battalion are now leaving peacefully and comfortably with their families.
The 39th Infantry Battalion together with 102 MICO, PIU DSPPO, 1104th RMFB, Magsaysay MPS, Matanao MPS, Colonsabak RPSB and 2nd DSPMFC facilitated the surrender of five (5) CNTs with surrendered and recovered War Material and two (2) UGMO leaders namely: Alias AROM/MORALES-CO, Local Guerilla Unit (LGU), Guerilla Front (GF) ALIP, Far South Mindanao Region (FSMR), Alias ARGUS– Team Leader, Primera, FGU, GF ALIP, FSM, Alias BATA-Member, LGU, GF ALIP, FSMR, Alias BLUE-Member, FGU, GF ALIP, FSMR, Alias BRUNO-Member, LGU, GF ALIP, Alias LOLOY- Kilusang Rebolusyonaryo sa Munisipalidad (KRM)-AKMA Chairman 2016, Alias JOY- KRM-AKMA Chairman 2017 to present in the municipalities Matanao, Magsaysay, Davao del Sur and Makilala, North Cotabato.
Most of the surrenders were classified as cadres who have been the Terrorist Group’s top ranking leaders. They surrendered with their high powered firearms to include their ammunitions and Improvise Explosive Devices.
Aside from their hardships in evading government forces they endured thirst, hunger, exhaustion, and sleeplessness due to the intensified combat operation of the 39th Infantry Battalion and other government security forces such as the police and CAFGUs. Their miserable condition is aggravated by their group’s financial problems. They confided that their extortion activities waned as government security operations intensified.
“This latest surrender is a proof that it is possible to achieve peace without violence. The 39th Infantry Battalion in collaboration with the local government units of Davao Del Sur and North Cotabato together with the Department of Interior and Local Government will assist these surrenders in availing their Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program. The government is willing to support these former rebels to become good citizens by enhancing their capacities for economic growth and development. Government agencies will work hand in hand to provide better goods and services to help them become sufficient and self-reliant in their daily lives”, Colonel Carandang, 39IB Commander said.
