QUEZON CITY, Sept. 4 (PIA)—The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Gilbert Gapay congratulates the Philippine Navy’s contingent to the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise 2020 via virtual conference today, September 4, at the Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo.

The RIMPAC is the world's largest international maritime warfare exercise series, which began in 1971.

The Naval Task Group 80.5 aboard BRP Jose Rizal (FF150) led by Captain Jerry Garrido participated in this year’s iteration of RIMPAC hosted by the United States Navy from August 17- 31 in Hawaii, USA.

Said exercises tested the Philippine’s first missile-capable frigate and its crew on its maiden voyage, which was only commissioned into service in July 10, 2020.

RIMPAC 2020 was also participated in by 10 nations, 22 ships, one submarine, and 5,300 personnel, which provided them a unique training opportunity to foster and sustain cooperative relationships crucial in ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world’s interconnected oceans.
