Maj. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Police Regional Office-5 (PRO-5) spokesperson, in a statement said police operatives and Army soldiers were
about to serve warrants of arrest to Roel Vargas, Eddie/Arnold Rosero and Jomar Tugbo who are facing charges for murder when they encountered a 20-man NPA group led by Rosero in Barangay Alas at around 5:13 a.m.

A 15-minute firefight ensued that led to the death of three still unidentified rebels and the recovery of a Garand rifle, carbine, two shotguns, a box containing assorted explosive components, one-fourth block C4 explosive, and an improvised explosive device (IED).

The bodies of the three slain rebels are now in the custody of the police.

Meanwhile, at around 7:20 a.m. Monday, police operatives manning a checkpoint in Barangay Dayao also in Mandaon town arrested Ronald Azucena while in possession of a .22-caliber handgun loaded with six bullets.

Azucena is now under the custody of the municipal police for proper disposition.

PNP-Bicol, Calubaquib added, shall continue its efforts amid the threat of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) to realize its goals for a safer and more peaceful community.
