Posted to Kalinaw News (Aug 9, 2020): 5 NPA bandits killed in a series of clash with the Army in Ilocos Sur; civilian bystanders shot by fleeing NPA
Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija – At least five (5) members of the Komiteng Larangan Gerilya South Ilocos Sur (KLG-SIS) of the New People’s Army were killed in a series of encounter during combat operations conducted by the 702nd Infantry Brigade in Barangay Suagayan, Sta. Lucia, Ilocos Sur around 2 pm on Saturday, August 8, 2020.
According to the report from 702nd Infantry Brigade, 3 successive encounters between government troops and the bandits were recorded in Ilocos Sur.
Four M16 rifles, 2 M14 rifles, 1 cal. 45 pistol, one 9mm pistol, 1 shotgun, 6 Improvised Explosive Device, 15 blasting caps, 5 detonating switch, 2 rolls of 25 meters wire, 3 hand grenades, 15 celphones, subversive documents and assorted medicines were recovered from the NPAs, along with the 5 NPA killed during the encounter.
Of the five NPA bandits killed, 2 were identified namely Rolando Marvil alias “Eugene”, team member and a resident of Brgy. Bugnay, Candon City, Ilocos Sur; alias “Maymay”, an NPA medic and whose real identity is yet to be known; and 3) others are still on the process of identification and validation. While there were 5 wounded and 1 killed in action on the gov’t side.
Brig. Gen. Audrey L. Pasia PA, the Commander of 702nd Brigade said, “We are determind to put an end to NPA’s KLG-SIS and if they will not surrender, we assure that in the coming days, the fate of their dead comrades will also happen to them.
In line with this, I would like to acknowledge the support given by the Provincial TF-ELCAC under Governor Ryan Singson of Ilocos Sur, for without the system they emplaced, the succesful operation will not come into fruition.
“Maj. Gen. Alfredo V. Rosario Jr. PA, Commander of the 7ID said, “The encounters show that the gov’t strongly holds its territorial jurisdiction against the bandits. This is also part of the effort of the Regn’l TF-ELCAC to finally crush the NPA and end the local armed conflict in Region 1.
Along with this is that, the people who have been tired in the NPA’s extortion activities for decades, have been supporting the gov’t in the fight to win the peace. We mourn to the loss of our gallant soldier who died to protect the communities of Ilocos Sur, he is a hero and his sacrifice will never be forgotten.
His death is an added fuel to our desire to pursue and win the peace in the Ilocos Sur,” Rosario Jr. stressed.
