CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental, Aug. 9 - The 58th Infantry (Dimalulupig) Battalion assisted the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAGRO) and Minergy Power Corporation (MPC) during the conduct of a two-day Resource Mapping and Accounting Workshop at So Kamansi, Brgy Banglay, Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental.
The said activity, which was also attended by local government unit (LGU) of Lagonglong, aimed to draw out the spatial distribution of resources and land uses in the community and to draw out the community’s different resource utilization and management practices as well as the issues and concerns to it and their recommendations.
Community Resource Mapping is a process allowing community members, young and old alike, men and women, IPs and Non-IPs, to sketch their perception of the community. The Community Resource Map, as the output of the workshop, will show the physical features of the area which are limited to size, boundary, natural resources, land uses, infrastructure and build up areas. It will show land use trends which in turn have an impact on the natural resources.
Moreover, the result of the workshop will form as the basis of Provincial Government Unit on how they will help the area based on the needs identified by the residents.
In his message, Lt.Col. Ricky L Canatoy, Commanding Officer of 58IB said, "this activity shows that, using approach that engages the community will make the people become more resilient and better equipped to rise to future challenges."
"We need to show and make the people understand that the government is supporting the communities in far flung areas. With this, we can lessen the recruits of NPA," Lt.Col. Canatoy ended.
