Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Jose Ruperto Martin Andanar said the groundbreaking of the Communication Academy in Manolo Fortich town, Bukidnon is set within the year as soon as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) awards the two-story building project.

Andanar, who visited here on Thursday, said PCOO envisions the academy to serve as a training ground for information officers in the government.

He acknowledged the need to strengthen communication strategies among government agencies, including local government units, to convey stories of development to the greater public.

"We will wait for DPWH to recommend bidding contractors this year, so that construction may begin. When this academy will be built, we can offer training on communication strategies, and maybe offer a master's degree in communication," he said.

Andanar, who also heads the Cabinet Officers for Regional Development and Security (CORDS) in Region 10 (Northern Mindanao), has also opened a regional office for CORDS, which will have a strategic communications facility to support the intensified information drive in implementing Executive Order 70.

Executive Order 70, which created the Task Force on the End Local Communist Armed Conflict in the local levels, mandates a "whole-of-nation" approach to address the insurgency problem in the countryside.

During his visit in the region on March 4, Andanar also discussed with Lanao del Norte Gov. Imelda Dimaporo the government's initiatives to intensify grassroots information dissemination on government projects and programs.

Andanar said PCOO will be documenting the start of the construction of the Panguil Bay Bridge.

"Let the Filipino know its importance to the Zamboanga Peninsula and respective municipalities. This is the longest bridge being constructed by this administration, longer than San Juanico Bridge. We are documenting Panguil Bay construction so that the people would know about it," Andanar said.

Andanar also cited the media hub to be opened in Davao City on June this year, which he said will showcase state-of-the-art equipment for communications.
