CAMP SANG-ANG, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur – A decade-old clan war of prominent families in Lanao del Sur was settled at Kampo Ranao, Marawi City, 9:00 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2020.
With the intervention of Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade led by Colonel Jose Maria R Cuerpo II, and 49th Infantry (Good Samaritan) Battalion led by Lt. Col. Edgar Allan S Villanueva, warring families of Abinal against Hajimalik and Macarampat finally ended their disputes.
According to Cuerpo, “I enjoin everyone not to make any foolish acts that will trigger misunderstanding between the parties again. Let us all be peace loving and God-fearing people.”
Hon. Mamintal Alonto Adiong, Provincial Governor of Lanao del Sur, who was also present during the activity, expressed his gratitude to the warring parties for embracing peace and settling their war.
Adiong further express the importance of peace for the development of the province.
The settlement resulted to the surrender of four High-powered firearms: two M16 and one M14 rifles; and one Ultimax Squad Automatic Weapon; and a number of magazines and ammunition.
For his part, Maj. Gen. Gene Ponio, the 1st Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces) commander, lauded the troops and the local government for the successful Rido settlement.
“Our troops and your Army is sincere and ready to mediate, assist and facilitate settlement of clan wars in order to achieve a just and lasting peace”, added Ponio.
“We are also thankful to the stakeholders and the local government units for their unwavering efforts in addressing social and societal problems in our area of responsibility”, Ponio concluded.
Family Ridos is one of the reason and source of criminalities in Lanao del Sur where innocent lives were lost and a numbers of properties damaged.
The 103rd Brigade allocates due attention in settling clan wars to achieve peace and development that every meranao deserves.
