BAGUIO CITY, Mar. 6(PIA) - - The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in the Cordillera has pipelined various activities to address the identified needs in Communist Terrorist Group(CTG) –affected areas in the region based on their respective barangay development plans.

TESDA spearheads the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood & Employment Cluster of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC). The ELCAC created under Executive Order 70 provides efficient mechanism for the whole-of –nation approach to help in the realization of sustainable peace in the country.

TESDA-CAR Division Chief of Operations Marlyn Necesito said their regional office committed to address the identified needs of the CTG areas in accordance with TESDA mandate.

She presented in a recent meeting their agency plans with a budget of about P7 million earmarked to fund a total of 28 proposals in 19 CTG-identified barangays in the region. Funds will be apportioned in terms of trainings and trainers training.

TESDA Provincial Offices will implement the trainings together with partner agencies, said Necesito. All the trainings will include the conduct of competency assessment through Institution-Based Training, Enterprise-Based Training, and Community-Based Training programs.

For the province of Abra, lined up trainings include on Computer Literacy in Talampac in Lacub municipality; entrepreneurship training in brgy. Gacab, improvement of soft broom and basket making in Mataragan, basket making in Pacqued, all in Malibcong; food processing in Dilong, and mushroom production in Kili, both in Tubo.

In Mountain Province, barangays Bagnen Proper and Bagnen Oriente in Bauko proposed several needs which TESDA allotted budget . Among these are skills training for the establishment of village-level blacksmith industry, and wood craft production, enhancement of handicraft production center, meat processing, wellness/massage, haircut, eco-guide training, basic mountaineering course, and training on basic life support. For barangay Otucan Norte, also in Bauko, is training on enhanced sewing.

In the municipality of Besao, trainings to be provided in barangay Tamboan would be on welding and organic agriculture production. In barangay Gueday would be trainings on bread and pastry making, manicure and pedicure, tailoring, welding, electrical (house and car wiring), carpentry, wood carving, and beekeeping.

For the municipality of Sagada, also in Mountain Province, TESDA will conduct training on meat processing and designing on thread weaving in barangay Aguid while barangay Bangaan will have livelihood projects/trainings in weaving, sewing, masonry, building wiring installation, and auto electrical.

Barangay Madongo will be provided training on weaving while barangay Fidelisan will have trainings on bread and pastry-making, tailoring and weaving and handicrafts.

For the province of Ifugao, barangay Camandag in Asipulo would be provided with trainings on organic agriculture, herbal medicine, seedlings production and Arabica Coffee production, carpentry, masonry, manicure and pedicure.

Barangay Cawayan, also in Asipulo would be provided trainings on weaving, sewing/tailoring, carpentry, masonry, haircutting, manicure/pedicure, handicrafts, food processing and mushroom production), dress making, cooking and baking, electrical wiring, auto-mechanic with practical driving, automotive with practical driving.

In Tinoc, Ifugao, barangayTukucan will have a community-based training in bookkeeping and computer training, while in brgy. Wangwang would be a community-based training in masonry, carpentry, welding, beauty care, hair cutting and handicrafts/weaving.

TESDA will conduct competency assessment after the training to ensure that competency has been achieved. Assessed will be the individual's skills, knowledge, attitude and work values relative to a unit or cluster of units of competency.

Necesito also informed that financial assistance and scholarship grants for college students/technical vocational students as identified by barangays Tamboan and Gueday in Besao; Dalican and Mainit in Bontoc and Aguid and Ankileng in Sagada in Mountain Province, will be endorsed to concerned agencies.
