COTABATO CITY, Mar. 6 (PIA) – The 6th Infantry “Kampilan” Division (6ID) is intensifying its efforts against lawless elements in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order (EO) 70, institutionalizing the “whole-of-nation” approach in attaining inclusive and sustainable peace through the creation of a national task force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC).

Commanding Officer of the 6th Civil Military Operations (6CMO) Battalion of the 6th Infantry Division (6ID) LTC Roberto Breboneria said that the 6ID is continuously in touch with the Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana in regard to the implementation of the executive order.

“We are now adopting this and I am the proponent of the so called “ELAC” (End Local Armed Conflict, since there is no communism in most of their areas of responsibility) here, the chairman is from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM),” Breboneria said in a recent meeting with Cotabato City media.

According to him, ELAC is designed to address the problem with Abu Sayyaf Group, Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), Dawlah Islamiyah, and other lawless element groups. Moreover, ELAC focuses on ‘rido’ or clan war settlement, one of the problems in the Bangsamoro Region.

With the initiatives under ELAC, Breboneria emphasized that there are now a huge number of BIFF members who returned to the fold of law. He emphasized that they underwent radicalization process in preparation for their reintegration into the mainstream society.

“I am happy to inform you that the 602nd brigade just a week ago already finished the radicalization process of the former BIFF members who returned to the folds of the law. They were already given livelihood assistance and now they are preparing themselves to train under TESDA,” he said.

Meanwhile, the army official stressed the importance of collaborating and coordinating with different stakeholders in addressing the problem with armed groups.

He encouraged media practitioners in Cotabato City to support this cause by reporting to the public the efforts of the government to sustain peace and development.

The meeting was organized by the Philippine Information Agency Region XII. (PIA Cotabato City)
