TACLOBAN CITY, Dec. 15 -- The Samar Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) Committee is currently fast-tracking the processing of the enrolment of former rebels so that they can avail of the benefits of the program.
During its latest meeting held at the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) - Samar Provincial Office, among the issues the Committee tackled was the update by the focal persons about the status of rebel returnees, the benefits they received and those still on process.
In Samar, there is now a total of 61 surrenderees broken down into 11 NPA regulars, 17 MBs and 33 mass supporters.
The committee discussed and resolved how the E-CLIP process and benefits can be fast-tracked in order to entice other would be surrenderees to avail of the program.
The Officer-in-Charge of National Housing Authority of Region 8, Mrs. Marilyn C. Lauzon was invited as resource person.
Mrs. Lauzon discussed about the Guidelines for the Provision of Housing Assistance to Former Rebels.
The last of the agenda that was lengthily discussed is the concept of ceremonial mass surrender and the preparations for the said activity.
The idea is to come up with an advocacy mileage keeping in mind that of protecting the identities of surrenderees, in order to attract more rebels to surrender.
Col. Camilo Z. Ligayo Inf (MNSA) PA, 801st Bde commander and co-chairman of the committee presided over the meeting that was attended by its members, Mrs. Alma Austero of PSWDO, Mr. Judy Batulan of DILG, PLtCol Rene Eguia of Samar PPO, Mrs. Anita Taran the Provincial Administrator, Mrs Alvina Valles as CSO representative and the E-CLIP focal persons of four infantry battalions under OPCON of the brigade.
