Troops of 40th Infantry Battalion responding to a report of a possible IED attack from concerned civilians found an improvised explosive device (IED) at a roadside in Brgy Bagumbayan, President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat on Tuesday evening, November 12, 2019.

The Army’s Explosive and Ordnance Disposal team successfully disarmed the IED after the military cordoned the area.

The following day, the troops intensified their security measures to clear the community of possible IEDs and were able to recover loose firearms consisting of a homemade M79 Grenade Launcher, a caliber. 22 rifle, an M653 rifle, and caliber. 45 pistol. They also found bandoleers and binoculars in the area.


In his statement, Joint Task Force Central Commander Maj. Gen Diosdado C. Carreon has enjoined everyone to remain vigilant at all times and support the government’s fight against terror attacks.

He also commended the continuous support of the civilian counterparts in maintaining peace and security by providing vital information that led to the timely discovery of the IED and loose firearms.
