CAGAYAN DE ORO (MindaNews / 15 November) — Police arrested two suspected “Sparrow” members of the New Peoples Army after a shootout in Valencia City, Bukidnon on Thursday.

Valencia City police chief Supt. Surki Sereñes said the two suspects
identified as Frederic Tagurda alias “Rek-rek” and Pedeng Matikinon alias “ Santo”, were wounded after the shootout in Purok 12, Barangay Tongan-Tongan in that city Thursday afternoon.

Sereñes said the suspects who were
alleged members of the NPA “Thunder” group of the NPA guerilla front 6, were brought to a hospital for treatment.


“The attending physician later advised us to take the suspects because they only sustained minor wounds,” Sereñes said.

Sereñes said the police operation started after a concerned citizen called them that there were four communist rebels on two motorcycles in Purok 12, Barangay Tongan-Tongan.

He said together with Army soldiers, the police went to Purok 12 but was met by gunfire from the suspect.

Sereñes said the two wounded suspects ran to a nearby rice mill but the two others managed to escape.

“The police officers and soldiers assaulted the rice mill resulting to the arrest of the two suspects,” Sereñes said.

He said they seized two caliber .45 pistol with 13 bullets; a fragmentation grenade; four pieces of blasting caps; subversive documents; a Honda XRM motorcycle.
