Andanar condemns NPA bomb attack in E. Samar

From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 15, 2019): Andanar condemns NPA bomb attack in E. Samar

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar on Friday denounced the recent bomb attack by the Communist Party of the Philippines’ (CPP) armed wing, the New People’s Army (NPA), in Eastern Samar that killed at least six soldiers and wounded 20 others.

“Kinukondena po ng Presidential Communications Operations Office ang nangyaring pag-ambush sa mga sundalo ng Armed Forces of the Philippines kung saan ay anim agad ang namatay at 20 ang sugatan dahil nga doon sa mga improvised explosive devices na iniwan po ng mga rebeldeng CPP-NPA doon sa Borongan (The Presidential Communications Operations Office is condemning the killing of six soldiers and wounding of soldiers in an ambush by the CPP-NPA rebels who detonated improvised explosive devices in Borongan),” Andanar said in a statement.

At least six soldiers were killed while 20 others were wounded when the NPA detonated six explosives during an armed encounter with the military on Monday afternoon in a remote Pinanag-an village in Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

Killed in action were Sgt. Rex Jadylco, Cpls. Ronald Go and Limar Banug; and First Class privates Kent Loyd Agullo, Charlie del Rosario, and Junmar Buranday.

Meanwhile, the 20 wounded soldiers were rushed to Camp Lukban hospital in Catbalogan City in Samar inside the headquarters of the Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry Division for immediate treatment.

Andanar said the recent communists’ attack was an attempt to hamper the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict’s (NTF-ELCAC) efforts to convince NPA insurgents to return to the fold of the law and live a normal life.

“Ito’y malinaw na isang paraan para po i-derail ang Executive Order No. 70 or ito po ang National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict at ang mga kaakibat po na mga aktibidad ng NTF-ELCAC (The attack is a clear move to derail the implementation of Executive Order 70, which creates the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, as well as the activities of NTF-ELCAC),” said Andanar, who concurrently heads the task force’s communications.

“Atin pong kinukumbinsi ang ating mga kasamahan, mga kaibigang, mga kadugo na mga CPP-NPA na bumaba na po at sumama na po sa ating lipunan (We are convincing the members of the CPP-NOA to surrender and reintegrate into mainstream society),” he added.

The CPP-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines.

Andanar guaranteed that a comfortable life awaits communist rebels who intend to surrender and help President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration in promoting peace and order in the country.

“At kapag ginawa po nila iyon ay bibigyan po natin sila ng isang magandang programa para po sila’y makabalik ng wasto sa lipunan na may trabaho at meron pong kapasidad at mayroon pong malaking assistance mula sa ating gobyerno (If they surrender, we will implement a good program for their reintegration, giving them a job and big assistance from the government),” he said.

The President was scheduled to visit the wake of the slain soldiers and check the condition of wounded soldiers in Eastern Samar on Friday afternoon.
