Army soldiers from the 94th Infantry Battalion figured in an encounter with suspected members of the New Peoples' Army in Negros Oriental, resulting in the seizing of arms and materials from the rebels.

The 40-minute firefight with at least 20 rebels took place in the afternoon of October 3 at Sitio Cabangahan in Bantolinao village.


According to the Joint Task Force Negros, the rebels withdrew with undetermined number of casualties.

Army troops recovered one anti-personnel mine; one unit commercial handheld radio; one unit AM radio; one buffer spring for M16; one charging handle for M16; one bolt for M16; two backpacks; two cellular phones; seven kilos rice; electrical wire; three ponchos; five hammocks; ten "Ang Bayan" booklets, and other personal belongings.
