3ID to recruit 547 soldiers, CAFGUs

From the Visayan Daily Star (Oct 19): 3ID to recruit 547 soldiers, CAFGUs

The 3rd Infantry Division has been given a quota by the Philippine Army to recruit 547 more soldiers and Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit members for deployment in Western and Central Visayas.

Capt. Cenon Pancito, 3ID Public Affairs Office chief, said yesterday that the additional recruitment quota, was in line with the order of President Rodrigo Duterte to eradicate terrorism and insurgency before his term ends in 2022.

The recruits allocated to 3ID are on top of the 5,300 quota set by the Armed Forces of the Philippines this year.

It aims to augment the troops to help the government achieve its deadline for ending local armed conflict and terrorism, as well as to expand its support to the nation building efforts of the government, Army spokesman Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said.

“Anyone who wants to serve our people is welcome to join as long as the qualifications of the Philippine Army are met. Qualified applicants will receive the same benefits during training and when they become part of the regular force,” Zagala said in a statement.

The minimum requirement for a candidate soldier is that he or she must be 18 to 30 years old, a natural born Filipino citizen, single, without a child, and is 5 feet to 6 feet and 4 inches tall. An aspiring applicant must also pass the Armed Forces of the Philippines Service Aptitude Test, Physical and Medical Examinations, and Physical Fitness Test.

Of the 25,000 additional troops for the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Zagala said the majority will go to the Philippine Army.

“We call on the best and the brightest to take this opportunity to be part of our nation building efforts by serving the people and securing the land,” Zagala added.
