The municipality of Bunawan in Agusan del Sur has formed a task force that seeks to implement government programs and projects aimed at ending the insurgency problem in the area.
Local officials created the Bunawan Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC) during the joint Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) and Municipal Development Council (MDC) meeting held at the Municipal Hall of Bunawan on Friday (October 18).
The meeting, presided over by Mayor Sylvia Elorde, was attended by top officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Army's 75th Infantry Battalion.
In a statement, Elorde said attaining peace and development requires the concerted efforts of all officials, stakeholders and the people of Bunawan town.
“We must work together in implementing this Whole of Nation Approach (WNA), and there is no impossible for the peace and the progress we aim for," she pointed out.
Bunawan is a 1st class municipality composed of 10 barangays in Agusan del Sur province with an estimated population of 45,151, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Lt. Col. Warren C. Munda, commanding officer of the 75IB, presented to the members of the councils the concepts of Executive Order No. 70, or the institution of the "whole-of-nation" approach in attaining inclusive and sustainable peace and development.
Munda said the creation of the anti-insurgency task force aims to harmonize and sustain the delivery of basic services and development agenda for the people of Bunawan.
"With good governance and the synchronization of effort by every agency, definitely we'll obtain a great outcome behind those efforts. With this MTF-ELCAC, the people will live happily together with their family in a peaceful and progressive community,” Munda said.
