Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito G. Galvez Jr. called the former combatants of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) as heroes.
As the country marked the National Heroes’ Day Monday, August 26, Galvez, a retired military general, said that the former MILF fighters, who like national heroes, such as Dr. Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, Antonio Luna, Lapu-Lapu and many others, also engaged in armed struggle in order for their people to be liberated from the shackles of poverty, injustice and inequality.
“They, too, are heroes in their own right,” he said.
This as Galvez urged the public to work together to ensure the success of the Bangsamoro Peace Process, particularly the Normalization Track of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro.
According to Galvez, the decommissioning process of the former MILF combatants formally started Monday, August 26.
