WESTMINCOM: NPA rebel neutralized, 7 nabbed in Ozamiz

Posted to the Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) Website (Aug 25, 2019): NPA rebel neutralized, 7 nabbed in Ozamiz

Military and police forces neutralized a communist rebel and arrested seven more in two separate clashes in Ozamiz City at dawn today, August 25.

Elements of 10th Infantry Battalion and 2nd PNP Mobile Force Company jointly operated against said communist group in Barangays Bagacay and Cogon at 5:50am today.

10IB Commander Lt. Col. Ray Tiongson said government troops recovered one M16 rifle, four caliber .45 pistols, seven hand grenades, and improvised explosive components.

The first firefight ensued when the troops responded to the report of residents in Barangay Bagacay of the presence of communist terrorists in their community while the second firefight ensued following a pursuit made by troops in Barangay Cogon.

Two wounded soldiers were brought to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.

Six wounded rebels also received medical treatment before they were turned over to the police for the filing of appropriate charges and proper disposition.

“The Tabak troopers will continue to work with the police in their law enforcement operations to protect the people and communities against the communist group,” said Maj. Gen. Roberto Ancan, Joint Task Force ZamPeLan Commander.

Additional troops currently pursue evading rebels while personnel of the Scene of the Crime Operatives investigate said encounter site.

“This score is an offshoot of the cooperation among security forces, local officials, and communities. The same effort will be sustained to accomplish more operational objectives to end local communist armed conflicts in the area,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Western Mindanao Command.
