The Philippine Army (PA) on Monday celebrated National Heroes Day with a series of capability demonstrations and a variety show at the Bonifacio Global City.
Army spokesperson Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said these activities aim to raise awareness on the PA's capabilities, aside from gaining popular support for its peace and security operations.
The demonstration featured the Band and Rifle Drill, K-9 and Explosives and Ordnance Disposal Team, and Combative and Martial Arts, he added.
Also, recruitment booths for individuals interested in becoming a member of the regular and reserve forces were put in place, aside from information campaign materials for the Reserve Officers Training Corps, static displays of Special Operating Forces, new PA equipment and demonstrations on combat fitness test.
Meanwhile, the variety show highlighted performances from the different Army musical bands and artists such as Ronnie Liang, Julian Trono, Katrina Velarde, The Juans, Shanne Dandan, Jean Kiley, Jem Cubil, Jinky Vidal, Janine Teñoso, Jeric Medina, and 2nd Lt. Matteo Guidicelli.
“Commemorating our heroes goes beyond remembering what they did. It also means fighting for what they fought for. We hope that through this event, the Philippine Army is able to bring awareness to the public and encourage them to take part in the Army’s endeavors for the country,” Zagala added.
