MILF: Bangsamoro Darul Ifta upholds Child Rights in Islam

Responding on the prevailing situation of the Bangsamoro Children who lagged behind in the whole country in terms of access to quality education, health and other Child rights, the Regional Darul-Iftah (House of Opinion)-BARMM in partnership with UNICEF and Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society (CBCS) convened its Munassiq-Maydani (field coordinators) held at Em Manor, Cotabato City on Saturday, July 7.

This program will promote the realization of Child rights to health, education and will contribute largely in reducing risks of children, adolescent and youths involve in violence and being associated with armed groups in the Bangsamoro.

The two-day inception workshops walked through the previous gains in the defunct Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) administration and fostered a program on Child Rights in Islam for the Bangsamoro people.

The program entails series of sermons (Khutba) on Child Rights that shall be delivered by a khatib (preacher) during Friday prayers. These includes registration of birth, education, health and nutrition, and protection from violence, among others.

His Eminence Grand Mufti and Executive Director Abuhuraira A. Udasan, of the Bangsamoro Darul Iftah quoted Verse 6, Surah Al-Tahrim of the Glorious Qur’an that states: “All you who believe, protect yourselves and your family from falling into fire in the Hereafter.” In the light of this verse, the parents are obliged to raise their Children in accordance with Islamic teaching such as with love, education so that they will observe discipline and become good citizens.

Mufti Udasan said that one of the precious advises of the Holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) to the Muslims states that “Whoever does not love children and does not respect elders, is not of me.”

During the meeting, the Darul-Iftah outlined 16 topics to foster the Child Rights in Islam such as clustering of target municipalities, recruitment of “khatib”, master training and provincial trainings and other related matter.

Luwaran received report that these 16 topics shall be developed and translated into different vernaculars and tailored to 20-25 Minutes sermon.

The identified topic according to the organizer will be reviewed by Mufti Udasan together with his consultants who are Doctors of Shariah, Doctors of Medicine and lawyers.

Meanwhile, UNICEF said that last November 20, 2018 marked the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. “This year, countries are recommitting themselves to ensure realization of the rights of all children,” UNICEF added.

The participants based on the CBCS secretariat list came from the Darul Iftah’s provincial coordinators as far as Tawi-tawi, Sulu, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, representatives of the 63 Barangays of North Cotabato and Cotabato City.
